How to deep clean a bathroom from top to bottom

How to deep clean a bathroom from top to bottom — monthly checklist, hard-water tips, and when to book Mundoria.

Bathrooms look fine until limescale, soap scum and grout catch the light. A proper bathroom deep clean doesn’t need to take all day — but it does need the right order, a short dwell time for products, and a plan for what you wipe last.

Here’s a UK-friendly top-to-bottom method, a checklist you can reuse monthly, and when to put it on a Mundoria visit instead.

How Often Should You Deep Clean a Bathroom?

Aim for a monthly deep clean, with a lighter weekly wipe of basin, toilet and floor in between. Busy family bathrooms or shared flats may need a deeper pass every two to three weeks.

What’s the Best Order?

Work top to bottom, dry to wet:

  1. Clear products from the basin and bath edge
  2. Dust high areas and the extractor cover
  3. Spray and leave cleaner to dwell 10–15 minutes
  4. Scrub tiles, grout and screen
  5. Clean basin, taps and mirrors
  6. Toilet last
  7. Floor mop to finish
Leave bathroom cleaner to dwell before scrubbing — limescale and soap scum loosen faster.
Top to bottom keeps dirty water off surfaces you’ve already finished.

Bathroom Deep Clean Checklist

  • Extractor cover and high dust
  • Tiles and grout (focus on splash zones)
  • Shower screen or curtain rail
  • Basin, taps and overflow
  • Bath or shower tray
  • Toilet bowl, seat and base
  • Mirror and switch surrounds
  • Bin and floor

What Products Help Most in Hard-Water Areas?

Birmingham’s hard water means taps and screens need a descaler more often than soft-water cities. White vinegar solutions can help on glass and chrome — never mix vinegar with bleach. For fragrance-sensitive homes, note preferences when you book.

TaskDIY tip
Shower screenDescale, then squeegee after each use
GroutSoft brush — avoid harsh scourers on cheap sealant
ToiletBowl first, then seat and exterior

Common Mistakes

  • Scrubbing immediately instead of letting product sit
  • Cleaning the floor before the basin and toilet
  • Forgetting the base of the toilet and behind the pedestals
  • Using the same cloth from toilet to basin

When Should You Book a Pro?

Before guests, after a neglected rental, or when limescale has hardened for months. Add bathroom priority notes on a deep clean or one-off clean, or keep bathrooms sharp with regular cleaning. Mundoria shows a clear estimate before you confirm.
